Pocket knives and, in general, short blades were historically born for specific working requirements and, since the very beginning, were conceived to be used in battle or for social acknowledgement. Today old traditions are often re-interpreted by very skilled craftsmen who are able to create high-quality precious objects using new materials and finishing.
One of these amazing artisans is Attilio “Atti” Morotti whom Fratelli Lorenzi are very proud to have met. Born in Bergamo in 1957, he lives in a little town in the province of Bergamo located at the beginning of Val Seriana.
He finishes creating his first knife on 13th December 2002 and continues the manufacturing of fixed knives for more or less one year before taking up the folding knives “experience”. He manages to make folding knives of acknowledged quality thanks to which, on 2nd June 2007, he is awarded the title of ““Maestro della Corporazione Italiana Coltellinai” (Master of the Italian Cutlery Association).
Attilio “Atti” Morotti starts his working phases by literally drawing and designing simple sketches of knives’ shapes on paper, which are subsequently improved, completed and finally transferred in every detail and measure, with the utmost care, on tracing paper. On request he may also copy his client’s design. The types of steel he uses are mainly RWL 34, stainless Damascus and carbon Damascus. For the scales are employed all natural materials like mother-of-pearl, bone, horn or stabilized woods etc., or else composite materials that are specifically created, such as carbon fibre or blue glass and grey, charcoal grey, golden or multi-coloured fibre. To guarantee a true artisan manufacture, the use of machinery is minimized and this allows every single piece to be as unique as possible.
