“In the past, fathers weren’t used to giving a mobile phone to their son when he was 10 or 12 years old, but a little sword!”.
On the 30th November at 17:30 at F.lli Lorenzi’s shop in Corso di Porta Romana 1 , Lodovico Schiaffi will introduce some pieces of his private collection of representative small swords.
The “representative small sword” was used with the Court suit by High Officials and by the Highest offices in the State - with their full dress uniforms - during official or worldly events.
The symbols and works carried out on the hilt, the handle or the blade, always represent the best handicraft of that epoch and describe the historical events of the period when these blades were used. One of the most popular practices was to make the blades blue or decorate some inserts of other metals, including gold.
The small sword was the archetype of the modern fencing sword and it is still in use by the armed forces in several countries as a distinctive Official’s arm (see the Military Academy of Modena).
This event is number 10 of the series Artisans, Artists and Collectors that F.lli Lorenzi have organised from 2015 up to today.
